UK to Share Missile Blueprint Details with Ukraine as Leaders Gather in Kyiv

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced during a visit to Kyiv that the United Kingdom will share classified technical data to assist Ukraine in manufacturing its own long-range missiles. Speaking as European leaders gathered in the Ukrainian capital to mark the country’s 35th Independence Day anniversary, Burnham stated that defense manufacturer MBDA will provide technical details regarding British-made components for SCALP missiles to help Ukraine assemble the weapons directly.

The announcement drew a sharp response from Moscow. The Kremlin stated that London’s move to aid Ukrainian missile production would “add fuel to fire” and accused the British government of obstructing potential peace negotiations. Burnham rejected the Kremlin’s warnings while in Kyiv, reiterating Britain’s firm support for Ukrainian independence and urging Western allies to dig into their own military stockpiles to supply additional Patriot air defense interceptor missiles to protect Ukrainian civilians.

While visiting Kyiv, Burnham co-chaired a virtual summit of the “Coalition of the Willing.” According to details posted on social media by Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, the online conference featured contributions from French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. During the discussions, European Union official Costa declared that Russia would not prevail and pledged continued backing, while the European Union announced a 7.1 billion dollar aid package for Ukraine.

Addressing the gathered leaders, President Zelenskyy urged allies to deliver an expanded air defense package before the onset of winter, citing expectations that Russian forces will target Ukraine’s critical energy infrastructure. Zelenskyy also asked international partners to help cover an estimated 27 billion euro funding deficit in Ukraine’s defense sector for 2026. Additionally, he indicated that Ukraine would pursue a “diplomatic track” with Moscow regarding intensified Russian attacks in the Black Sea, which have severely restricted Ukrainian commercial shipping and export capacity.

The high-level gathering in Kyiv coincided with fresh Russian strikes across multiple parts of Ukraine. In Chernihiv, situated less than 150 kilometers (100 miles) north of Kyiv, three successive waves of Russian drone attacks struck a residential apartment building. Local emergency services and city council officials reported that 18 people were injured, including two children. Simultaneously, regional authorities in southern Ukraine reported large-scale missile and drone strikes hitting food storage facilities and key energy infrastructure in the Odesa region.
