Prior to a surprise appearance in the semi-finals at Wimbledon in July, the 24-year-old was positioned outside the top 100 in the global standings. His recent match victories have elevated him to a career-best world ranking of 33, allowing him to pass Cameron Norrie as the highest-ranked British male singles player.
The Winston-Salem tournament serves as a key tune-up ahead of the upcoming US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York.
