Boston pitcher Aroldis Chapman entered the game in the ninth inning to record the final three outs. The relief appearance earned Chapman his 399th career save and preserved Boston’s 1-0 win.

Regarding the incident, Alexander admitted he hoped the exchange would motivate his team. “Get the crowd going a little bit,” Alexander said. “You never know. You score two there, we win, and it looks real good.”
