Apple is preparing to release its first folding smartphone under the name iPhone Duo, according to a report published by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman ahead of the company’s product event. The device is reported to carry a starting price of $2,000 and could begin shipping as early as October 2026. The launch marks the first major iPhone presentation since John Ternus succeeded Tim Cook as chief executive officer of Apple.

Pricing and Storage Tiers

According to the Bloomberg report, the entry-level 256GB storage tier for the iPhone Duo will cost $2,000. Higher storage options extending up to 2TB are expected to increase the price to approximately $3,000. The hardware is expected to launch in two color options: white and dark blue.

A $2,000 entry point places the device above the starting prices of competing foldable phones in the market. Google’s Pixel 11 Pro Fold and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 both start at $1,899. However, the reported base price remains below Samsung’s higher-end Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which is listed at $2,099.99.

Naming and Software Features

The foldable device had previously been referred to in industry reports as the iPhone Ultra. The proposed “Duo” moniker reuses a name previously adopted by Microsoft for its Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 dual-screen mobile devices, as well as a video calling platform former developer Google maintained.

Reports indicate the device will support running two iPhone applications side by side, offer multitasking features similar to those found on the iPad, and work with the Apple Pencil stylus.

Apple’s foldable iPhone Duo reportedly starts at $2,000 — Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold 1,899 USD, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 1,899 USD, Apple iPhone Duo (256GB) 2,000 USD, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra 2,099.99 USD
