Townsend and Siniakova Win US Open Doubles Title

Top seeds Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova captured the US Open women’s doubles title on Friday with a 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 victory over wild-card pairing Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery. The win completed a career Grand Slam for the duo as a team, adding to their previous major victories across the globe.

The triumph at Arthur Ashe Stadium marks the pair’s first US Open championship together after finishing as runners-up in the tournament a year earlier.

Overcoming a Slow Start

Townsend and Siniakova faced early difficulty in the final, dropping the first three games of the match and ultimately losing the opening set 5-7. An uncharacteristic miscommunication left a ball dropping untouched between the top-ranked doubles players during the early stages.

However, the top seeds recovered their form in the second set, taking control through aggressive play at the net. They dominated the remainder of the contest, sweeping the second set 6-0 before securing the deciding set 6-2. Reflecting on the turnaround, Siniakova said, “We found a solution.”

Milestones and Career Records

By securing the US Open trophy, Townsend and Siniakova completed a career Grand Slam as a partnership. Their team previously won titles at Wimbledon in 2024, the Australian Open in 2025, and the French Open earlier in 2026.

For the 30-year-old Townsend, the victory represents her fourth Grand Slam title, all earned alongside Siniakova. Townsend had earlier been eliminated from the singles competition by world number one Aryna Sabalenka before shifting her focus entirely to doubles.

For Siniakova, the US Open crown is her 12th career Grand Slam women’s doubles title. The Czech player previously won seven major titles with Barbora Krejcikova and one alongside Coco Gauff before partnering with Townsend.

Unlikely Finalists

Krueger and Montgomery reached the final despite entering the tournament as wild cards, holding individual doubles rankings of 570th and 610th respectively. Their final appearance came five years after the pair won the US Open girls’ doubles title together in 2021.

To reach the final, Krueger and Montgomery eliminated the defending champion duo of Erin Routliffe and Gabriela Dabrowski by defeating their respective sides in the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Speaking about their tournament run, Montgomery said, “I think we did forget that we were offered a wild card.”

Reversing Last Year’s Result

The victory delivered redemption for Townsend and Siniakova, who had lost the US Open final to Routliffe and Dabrowski the previous year. Summarizing the turnaround, Townsend remarked, “If flipping the script had a face, you’d see my face.”
