Giants Place Rookie Bryce Eldridge on Concussion List

The San Francisco Giants placed rookie first baseman and designated hitter Bryce Eldridge on the seven-day concussion list on Monday following an accident at the team’s hotel in Los Angeles. The roster move effectively concludes the 21-year-old’s debut Major League Baseball season, with manager Tony Vitello stating he does not expect Eldridge to play again in 2026.

Hotel Injury Cuts Rookie Season Short

The transaction was made retroactive to Sept. 18, which technically leaves Eldridge eligible to return for San Francisco’s final three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, Vitello indicated that the team plans to hold him out for the rest of the schedule. Eldridge sustained the head injury on Friday during an off-field incident at the hotel.

Eldridge ends his first major league campaign with a .269 batting average, 17 home runs, and 57 RBIs across 386 at-bats after making his debut on May 4. Selected 16th overall in the first round of the 2023 draft out of James Madison High School in Vienna, Virginia, Eldridge only began playing first base in 2024 during his second professional season.

Reflecting on Eldridge’s progress, Vitello praised the rookie’s defensive improvements alongside his offensive output, noting that Eldridge “hit more than his fair share” of critical home runs while executing smaller aspects of the game effectively.

Series of Roster Changes

Eldridge’s placement on the concussion list was one of several transactions announced by the Giants on Monday. Outfielder Jung Hoo Lee was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a groin contusion. Lee has hit .276 with 10 home runs this season.

To fill the open roster spots, San Francisco reinstated infielder Marcelo Mayer from the 10-day injured list. Mayer arrived from the Boston Red Sox last month in a trade deadline deal that sent left-handed relief pitcher Erik Miller to Boston. Mayer was slated to make his Giants debut as the designated hitter against the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.

Prospect Called Up for Debut

The Giants also selected the contract of outfielder Bo Davidson from Triple-A Sacramento. Davidson was named to Monday’s starting lineup in right field against Minnesota to make his big-league debut. The left-handed hitting prospect accumulated a .290 batting average with 29 home runs, 94 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases across Double-A and Triple-A levels earlier this season.

Additionally, San Francisco designated left-handed reliever Philip Abner for assignment to complete the sequence of roster moves.
