Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore Ravens: History, Championships, Players and Latest Team Information
The Baltimore Ravens are one of the NFL’s most successful young franchises, known for championship defenses, physical football and a long tradition of outstanding defensive players. Based in Baltimore, Maryland, the Ravens compete in the AFC North alongside the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers. The team plays its home games at M&T Bank Stadium.
Baltimore Ravens History
The Ravens were established in 1996, bringing professional football back to Baltimore after the Colts had moved to Indianapolis. The franchise won its first regular-season game on September 1, 1996, defeating the Oakland Raiders 19-14.
Baltimore’s first championship era arrived quickly. Under head coach Brian Billick, the Ravens developed one of the most dominant defenses in NFL history. The 2000 team allowed the fewest points in a 16-game regular season in league history and went on to defeat the New York Giants 34-7 in Super Bowl XXXV.
The Ravens returned to the top of the NFL after the 2012 season. Led by quarterback Joe Flacco, linebacker Ray Lewis and a talented defense, Baltimore defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in Super Bowl XLVII. The victory gave the franchise its second Super Bowl championship.
Baltimore has won two Super Bowls and two AFC championships, while also capturing eight AFC North division titles, including championships in 2023 and 2024.
Ravens Legends and All-Time Greats
The Ravens have produced an impressive list of legendary players. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Jonathan Ogden, Terrell Suggs, Jamal Lewis and Joe Flacco are among the most important figures in franchise history.
Ray Lewis became the face of Baltimore’s defense for much of the franchise’s early history, while Ed Reed established himself as one of the greatest safeties in NFL history. Jonathan Ogden was the first player ever selected by the Ravens in the draft and became one of the league’s premier offensive tackles.
The modern era has been defined by quarterback Lamar Jackson. Selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Jackson has won two NFL MVP awards and become one of the league’s most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks.
Baltimore Ravens Today
The Ravens enter the 2026 NFL season with Jesse Minter as head coach and Lamar Jackson continuing to lead the offense. Minter is beginning his first season as Baltimore’s head coach after succeeding John Harbaugh.
Baltimore has started the 2026 preseason strongly, defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 24-7 and the Minnesota Vikings 13-3. The Ravens are scheduled to close preseason against the Washington Commanders on August 28 as coaches make their final roster evaluations.
The team is also evaluating several young players ahead of the regular season. Rookie edge rusher Ethan Burke has made a strong case for a roster spot, while fifth-round cornerback Chandler Rivers has impressed during preseason action. Wide receiver Rashod Bateman has also emerged as a standout during recent joint practices.
Baltimore opens the 2026 regular season on September 13 against the Indianapolis Colts. The Ravens will also face the Dallas Cowboys in Rio de Janeiro in Week 3, adding an international matchup to an already demanding schedule.
