Green Bay Packers
Green Bay Packers: History, Championships, Players and Latest Team Information
The Green Bay Packers are one of the most historic franchises in the NFL and the only community-owned team in the league. Based in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the Packers compete in the NFC North alongside the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. They play their home games at the legendary Lambeau Field, one of the most iconic venues in American sports.
Green Bay Packers History
Founded in 1919 by Curly Lambeau and George Calhoun, the Packers joined the NFL in 1921. The franchise quickly established a winning tradition, capturing three consecutive league championships from 1929 through 1931. Green Bay also won NFL titles in 1936, 1939 and 1944 during the pre-Super Bowl era.
The team’s greatest early dynasty came under legendary head coach Vince Lombardi. Led by quarterback Bart Starr, the Packers won NFL championships in 1961, 1962, 1965, 1966 and 1967. Green Bay also won the first two Super Bowls, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in Super Bowl I and the Oakland Raiders 33-14 in Super Bowl II.
The Packers returned to the top of the NFL in the 1990s. Quarterback Brett Favre led Green Bay to Super Bowl XXXI following the 1996 season, where the Packers defeated the New England Patriots 35-21. Green Bay won its fourth Super Bowl after the 2010 season, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 in Super Bowl XLV.
Overall, Green Bay has won a record 13 NFL championships, including four Super Bowl titles.
Packers Legends and All-Time Greats
The Packers have produced generations of legendary players, including Bart Starr, Ray Nitschke, Brett Favre, Reggie White, Willie Wood, Paul Hornung, Don Hutson and Aaron Rodgers.
Favre remains Green Bay’s all-time passing leader, while Ahman Green holds the franchise rushing record and Donald Driver is the team’s career leader in receiving yards.
The modern Packers have transitioned to a new generation led by quarterback Jordan Love, who has taken over the starting role following the departure of Aaron Rodgers. Love is entering another important season as Green Bay looks to develop its young offensive talent into a championship-caliber unit.
Green Bay Packers Today
The Packers enter the 2026 NFL season under head coach Matt LaFleur, with Jordan Love continuing as the team’s starting quarterback. Green Bay has spent the offseason reshaping its roster while developing a receiving group around Love and strengthening its defense.
The 2026 preseason has provided encouraging signs. Green Bay defeated the Denver Broncos 33-13 in its second preseason game, with Love completing 5 of 7 passes for 56 yards and an 11-yard touchdown pass to MarShawn Lloyd during the opening offensive series.
The Packers are also monitoring several important injury situations. Running back Josh Jacobs has been working his way back from a groin injury, while starting left guard Aaron Banks has been dealing with knee tendinitis. Both players were trending toward being available for the regular season.
As preseason concludes, Green Bay faces important roster decisions and position battles before finalizing its 53-man roster. The competition includes several young players attempting to secure places on the team and contribute during the regular season.
