Philadelphia Eagles
Philadelphia Eagles: History, Championships, Players and Latest Team Information
The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the NFL’s most passionate and successful franchises. Founded in 1933, the Eagles compete in the NFC East alongside the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Washington Commanders. Philadelphia plays its home games at Lincoln Financial Field, where the team has developed one of the NFL’s most recognizable home-field advantages.
Philadelphia Eagles History
The Eagles quickly established themselves as a competitive franchise, winning their first NFL championship in 1948 and successfully defending the title in 1949. Philadelphia added another NFL championship in 1960, defeating the Green Bay Packers 17-13. Those three pre-Super Bowl championships remain an important part of the franchise’s history.
Philadelphia’s next championship era took decades to arrive. The Eagles reached their first Super Bowl after the 1980 season but lost to the Oakland Raiders. They returned to the Super Bowl following the 2004 season before falling to the New England Patriots.
The breakthrough finally came after the 2017 season. Led by quarterback Nick Foles and head coach Doug Pederson, Philadelphia defeated the New England Patriots 41-33 in Super Bowl LII, securing the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship.
The Eagles returned to the Super Bowl after the 2022 season but lost a close contest to the Kansas City Chiefs. Philadelphia earned another championship opportunity two years later, defeating the Chiefs 40-22 in Super Bowl LIX following the 2024 season. That victory gave the Eagles their second Super Bowl title.
Eagles Legends and Star Players
Philadelphia has featured many outstanding players throughout its history. Chuck Bednarik, Reggie White, Brian Dawkins, Donovan McNabb, Jason Kelce and LeSean McCoy are among the franchise’s most celebrated stars.
The modern Eagles have been led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, who helped guide Philadelphia to Super Bowl LIX. Running back Saquon Barkley, wide receiver A.J. Brown, wide receiver DeVonta Smith and defensive tackle Jalen Carter are also central figures in the team’s current roster.
Philadelphia Eagles Today
The Eagles enter the 2026 NFL season as defending Super Bowl champions, with Nick Sirianni continuing as head coach and Howie Roseman overseeing football operations. The organization is attempting to maintain its championship standard while developing younger players and adjusting to several coaching changes.
One of the biggest changes is on offense. Sean Mannion is the new offensive coordinator after Kevin Patullo departed following the 2025 season. The Eagles also moved on from longtime offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, with Chris Kuper taking over that role.
As the 2026 preseason reaches its final stage, Philadelphia is evaluating its roster ahead of the final cutdown deadline. The team is scheduled to host the Cincinnati Bengals in its final preseason game on August 28, with roster decisions becoming increasingly important.
The Eagles have also dealt with injury and depth storylines during preseason. Running back Ja’Quinden Jackson suffered a frightening injury during the preseason matchup with New England but was reported to have full movement and a negative CT scan.
