Boxing Promotion MVP Marks Five-Year Anniversary with All-Women’s Main Card

Boxing promotional company Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) is marking its five-year anniversary with an event centered on women’s professional boxing. Co-founded by online influencer Jake Paul, the organization launched its inaugural card on August 29, 2021, in Cleveland, Ohio, where Paul fought former mixed martial arts fighter Tyron Woodley. The promotion initially built its public profile through high-profile spectacle matches, including a rematch between Paul and Woodley in Tampa, Florida, and a heavily publicized bout featuring Paul against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

Despite initial skepticism from traditional boxing figures who dismissed the organization as an unconventional newcomer, MVP has expanded its operational footprint into world-title professional boxing, particularly within the women’s division. The company’s upcoming five-year anniversary card features five women’s contests on the main card at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham, England.

The headline match features Mikaela Mayer taking on British boxer Chantelle Cameron to unify the WBA, WBC, and WBO light-middleweight titles. Cameron joined MVP last year after previous promotional stints with Matchroom and Queensberry. After defeating Katie Taylor in 2023 before losing a rematch, Cameron experienced a stall in her scheduling. Since joining MVP, she fought Patricia Berghult in November 2024 and Jessica Camara eight months later at Madison Square Garden in New York prior to securing her current title unification bout.

The card’s chief support bout features British fighter Caroline Dubois defending her WBC and WBO lightweight titles against Amelia Moore. Dubois, who previously fought at smaller locations such as Sheffield’s Park Community Arena, has since competed in Miami and London. She stated that working with Paul provided insight into fight promotion and entertainment strategy. Earlier on the card, former world champion Terri Harper will face Miranda Reyes to restart her career following a points defeat against Dubois in April.

In addition to Cameron, Dubois, Mayer, and Harper, MVP’s promotional roster includes several leading female fighters, such as Amanda Serrano, Alycia Baumgardner, and former undisputed super-bantamweight champion Ellie Scotney. Several signed athletes, including Cameron, have used the platform to call for structural changes in the sport, such as implementing three-minute rounds in women’s boxing to align with men’s division standards.

Women’s professional boxing has experienced increased visibility and commercial backing in recent years. Historically, female boxers faced limited television exposure, lower purses, and fewer opportunities to headline major arena cards compared to their male counterparts.

Women’s boxing was introduced to the Olympic Games program at the London 2012 Games. Additionally, professional women’s bouts traditionally consist of ten two-minute rounds, compared to the twelve three-minute rounds standard in men’s championship boxing.
