The Philadelphia Eagles will be without several key offensive players, including running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith, for Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. A total of five Eagles players have been ruled out due to injuries ahead of the international fixture.
The depleted roster forces significant lineup adjustments for Philadelphia, particularly within their offensive skill positions and along the offensive line.
Key Offensive Starters Sidelined
Barkley will miss his first start of the season after exiting early in the first quarter of last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams with a hamstring injury. Smith is also sidelined with a hamstring issue, marking his second consecutive missed game. Receiver Hollywood Brown has been ruled out due to an ankle injury.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts appeared on Friday’s injury report with a calf issue, but he carries no game designation and is set to play. Head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed that wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks injured his hamstring during Thursday’s practice; Wicks was limited in Friday’s practice but also has no designation for Sunday’s game.
Roster Reshuffle at Center
Philadelphia faces severe disruption at center following the rule-out of Drew Kendall, who missed practice all week with a knee injury. Kendall took over starting duties in Week 2 when Cam Jurgens shifted to left guard to replace the injured Landon Dickerson.
The position was further impacted when Jurgens, a two-time Pro Bowl center, was traded to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday. Backup lineman Jake Majors was seen taking reps at center during the portion of Wednesday’s practice accessible to the media.
Defensive Status and Returning Players
On defense, safety Marcus Epps has been ruled out with a groin injury. Edge rusher Jonathan Greenard is listed as questionable with an ankle injury after failing to practice this week. Greenard left last week’s contest against the Rams in the third quarter and previously missed the first two regular-season games due to a pectoral injury.
Philadelphia will gain some reinforcement with the return of tight end Dallas Goedert, who had been out since injuring his knee in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans. Linebacker Zack Baun has also cleared concussion protocol and is expected to play.
Background
NFL teams regularly travel to London as part of the league’s international series, which presents unique logistical and scheduling challenges for participating franchises. Roster depth is frequently tested during overseas trips, particularly when teams encounter mid-season injury spikes or execute high-profile trades during the practice week.
