Total reported gifts $155,000

US President Donald Trump distributed $155,000 in cash holiday gifts to four White House aides, according to official financial disclosures published last week. The payments included $45,000 sums given to three close assistants and a $20,000 gift provided to an Oval Office director.

Disclosures Reveal Specific Payments

The annual financial disclosure filings, first reported by The Washington Post on Tuesday, outline payments made to four executive staff members. Executive assistant Natalie Harp, communications adviser Margo Martin, and deputy director of Oval Office operations Chamberlain Harris each received a $45,000 holiday gift from Trump. Director of Oval Office operations Walt Nauta received $20,000.

The cash payments represent substantial additions to the aides’ federal earnings. According to the White House salary disclosure report submitted to Congress, Harp, Martin, and Harris each earn an annual government salary of $150,000. Nauta receives an annual salary of $175,000.

White House Cites Longstanding Practice

Addressing the disclosures, an unnamed White House official told the Associated Press that Trump “has a longstanding practice of giving Christmas gifts to people in his orbit” across both his public office and private sector career.

The official stated that the cash gifts were unrelated to the “individuals’ official government duties, and therefore are entirely permissible under relevant legal and ethical standards.” The official did not disclose whether any additional White House personnel received similar financial gifts from Trump.

Backgrounds of the Recipient Aides

The four staff members hold prominent roles within Trump’s personal and official operations. Harp maintains a constant presence alongside the president, frequently carrying a portable printer to provide paper printouts of social media posts and favorable news coverage for Trump.

Martin served as a press assistant during Trump’s first presidency before relocating to Palm Beach, Florida, to run his media operations following his 2020 election defeat. She rejoined the administration after Trump’s election victory in 2024.

Harris was appointed earlier this year to the United States Commission of Fine Arts, an agency with oversight responsibilities for the White House ballroom project. Nauta, a former military valet to Trump, was indicted in 2023 alongside Mar-a-Lago property manager Carlos De Oliveira on federal charges alleging conspiracy to obstruct an FBI probe into classified records removed from the White House.
