Bears extend running back D’Andre Swift with $33.75M deal

The Chicago Bears have reached an agreement with running back D’Andre Swift on a three-year contract extension worth $33.75 million, according to league sources. The deal secures the 27-year-old rusher through the 2029 season following a standout performance during the 2025 campaign.

Extension terms and contract details

The franchise formally confirmed the three-year extension on Saturday, though team officials did not officially release financial details. Sources told ESPN that the deal includes $27.5 million in guaranteed money.

Swift was entering the final year of a three-year, $24 million contract signed during free agency in 2024, shortly before Chicago selected quarterback Caleb Williams in the NFL draft. The new agreement extends his tenure in Chicago by an additional three seasons.

Career season drives backfield stability

The extension follows a 2025 season in which Swift led Chicago’s rushing attack with 1,087 yards and nine touchdowns. He added 34 receptions for 299 yards and one touchdown. The totals surpassed his previous career highs set during his 2023 season with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he earned his lone Pro Bowl selection.

Over the past two seasons, Swift has started 34 of 35 games for Chicago, including playoff contests, ranking among the league’s top 12 rushers last season. Paired with backfield partner Kyle Monangai, Swift helped propel the Bears to the third-ranked rushing offense in the NFL, averaging 144.5 yards per game. The team also produced 127 explosive plays during the regular season, the second-highest total in the league.

Team leadership endorses extension

Discussions regarding an extension intensified during training camp ahead of Chicago’s season opener against the Carolina Panthers. Team leadership highlighted Swift’s offseason development under running backs coaches Eric Bieniemy and Eric Studesville.

Chicago general manager Ryan Poles publicly praised Swift’s work ethic on Sept. 1, saying, “I love Swifty.” Head coach Ben Johnson also endorsed the running back’s progress on Aug. 27, stating, “I think he’s primed for a big year.”

Swift expressed confidence in his readiness ahead of the season, remarking that he felt he had “a complete camp.” He joins a group of several NFL running backs who have secured high-value extensions this offseason, including Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson, and Jonathan Taylor.
