Google Quietly Raises Google TV Streamer Price by 50%, to $149.99

Google has raised the price of its Google TV Streamer from $99.99 to $149.99, a 50 percent increase that took effect Monday with no advance announcement. The device, Google’s flagship streaming box since it replaced the Chromecast line in 2024, has not changed in any way since launch — the price is the only thing that moved.

The new price is already live on the Google Store and at Best Buy. Other retailers, including Amazon, Walmart and Target, were still listing the device at its original $99.99 price as of Monday, though that’s expected to change as inventory turns over.

In a statement given to 9to5Google, the company said: “Due to rising component costs, we are adjusting the U.S. pricing of select Google Nest cameras, doorbells and Google TV streamer 4K, effective August 31. We remain committed to providing our customers with industry-leading smart home security and continuous feature updates.”

The increase wasn’t limited to the streaming box. Nest cameras and doorbells across the lineup saw price bumps of $20 to $30, with the Nest Cam Outdoor rising from $149.99 to $199.99 and the wired Nest Doorbell increasing from $179.99 to $199.99. A handful of products were left untouched, including the Google Home Speaker, Nest Thermostats and the second-generation Nest Hub — devices whose pricing had likely already absorbed rising component costs at their more recent launches.

Part of a wider pattern

Google’s move follows similar increases across the streaming hardware market this year. Amazon raised prices across its Echo, Kindle and Fire TV lineup earlier in 2026, including pushing the Fire TV Stick 4K Max from $59.99 to $84.99. Apple followed with its own increase on the Apple TV 4K, taking the Wi-Fi model from $129 to $199 and the Ethernet version as high as $249.

The underlying cause across the industry is widely attributed to rising RAM prices, driven in part by demand from AI infrastructure. Google’s own Pixel 11 lineup launched roughly two weeks before this price change at $100 more than the equivalent Pixel 10 models, a shift the company has attributed to the same component pressures. The Google TV Streamer’s relatively generous specifications for its category — 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, more than most competing streaming devices — made it particularly exposed to the same cost increases.

At its new price, the Google TV Streamer now roughly matches the entry-level Apple TV 4K, narrowing a price gap that had previously been one of its clearer advantages over Apple’s device.
