How to Watch NFL Games Without Cable in 2026: Every Option, Every Price

The NFL season kicks off Wednesday, September 9, and watching it has never required more apps.

Games in 2026 are scattered across CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, ABC and NFL Network, plus streaming exclusives on Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Peacock and Paramount+. Roughly 40 games sit behind paywalls that did not exist five years ago. A fan determined to watch every single game can expect to spend somewhere between $550 and $920 across the season.

The good news: almost nobody needs to do that. Most fans want their own team plus the big national games, and that can be done for a fraction of the cost — sometimes for free.

Here is every legal way to watch NFL football without cable in 2026, what each one actually costs, and how to build the cheapest setup for the way you watch.

All prices verified as of August 25, 2026. Streaming prices change frequently — confirm before you subscribe.

First: Know Who Owns What

Before you spend anything, understand the map. Every NFL game falls into one of these windows:

WindowNetworkStreams on
Sunday afternoon (AFC-heavy)CBSParamount+
Sunday afternoon (NFC-heavy)FOXFOX One
Sunday Night FootballNBCPeacock
Monday Night FootballESPN / ABCESPN app
Thursday Night FootballPrime Video (exclusive)
Select holiday & special gamesNetflix (exclusive)
Week 16 Saturday gamesNFL Network
Week 17 Saturday nightPeacock (exclusive)
Week 18 Saturday afternoonNetflix
Out-of-market Sunday afternoonNFL Sunday Ticket

Two things follow from this table.

One: if you only care about your own team and they are not on national TV much, you may need very little. Local Sunday games air on CBS or FOX — free over the air.

Two: Netflix’s slate expanded in 2026. It previously carried only Christmas Day. This season it also has the Week 1 international game from Australia, a Thanksgiving Eve game, and a Week 18 Saturday afternoon window. Fans who used to subscribe for one month now need it for several.

Option 1: An Antenna (Free)

Start here, because most people skip it and shouldn’t.

CBS, FOX, NBC and ABC all broadcast over the air, for free, forever. A basic indoor antenna costs around $35 once and gives you every Sunday afternoon game shown in your market, plus Sunday Night Football, plus Monday night games that air on ABC, plus the Super Bowl.

For a fan who follows one team in their home market, an antenna covers the large majority of that team’s season at zero recurring cost. Signal strength varies by location, so check a coverage map for your address before buying.

Covers: Local CBS/FOX Sunday games, SNF, ABC games, playoffs, Super Bowl LXI (February 14, 2027) Doesn’t cover: Thursday nights, Netflix games, ESPN-only Monday games, NFL Network, out-of-market games

Option 2: Skinny Sports Bundles (~$65/month)

This is the sweet spot for most cord-cutters, and it is newer than most people realise.

Three services now sell stripped-down sports packages at roughly the same price:

  • YouTube TV Sports Plan — $64.99/month (new-customer offers around $54.99 have been available)
  • DirecTV MySports — around $65/month
  • Fubo Sports — around $65/month

All three include ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, ESPN and NFL Network. That combination covers the overwhelming majority of in-market games every week without paying for a hundred entertainment channels you’ll never open.

Which you choose depends mostly on what else you want. Check each service’s channel list with your ZIP code before committing — local affiliate availability varies by market.

Option 3: Full Live TV Streaming ($70–$90/month)

If you want the complete channel lineup:

ServicePrice
YouTube TV (Base Plan)$82.99/mo (~$67.99 for first 3 months)
YouTube TV Sports + News / Sports + Entertainment~$72/mo
Sling Orange + Blue$69.99/mo
DirecTV Entertainment$59.99 first month, then $89.99/mo

YouTube TV remains the most complete single service, largely because it is the only place to add NFL Sunday Ticket. DirecTV offers a five-day free trial; several competitors offer trials as well, which is worth exploiting in Week 1.

Option 4: The À La Carte Hack ($30–$70/month)

Here is where cord-cutting gets interesting. You can skip live TV bundles entirely and buy only the apps that carry the games you want:

ServicePriceWhat it gets you
Paramount+ Essential$8.99/moCBS Sunday games
Peacock Premium$10.99/moNBC games, SNF, Week 17 exclusive
FOX One$19.99/moFOX Sunday games
ESPN Unlimited$29.99/moMNF, ABC games, plus NFL Network included
Prime Video$8.99/mo standalone ($14.99 full Prime)Thursday Night Football

Sunday afternoons only? FOX One plus Paramount+ Essential is roughly $29/month and covers both Sunday afternoon windows.

All four broadcast networks? Add Peacock and ESPN Unlimited for about $70/month total.

The bundle worth knowing: ESPN Unlimited and FOX One can be purchased together for $39.99/month, saving $10 versus buying them separately. ESPN Unlimited including NFL Network at no extra charge is the most underrated deal in this entire guide.

Option 5: NFL Sunday Ticket (Out-of-Market Fans Only)

If you live in Miami and support the Cowboys, this is the only way to watch those Sunday afternoon games. Sunday Ticket is sold exclusively through YouTube and YouTube TV.

The advertised rate is rarely the rate you should pay.

  • The ID.me plan at $198 is the strongest offer of 2026, because unlike most discounts it is open to both new and returning subscribers. Eligible groups include military members, veterans, first responders, medical professionals and teachers. Redeemable through December 31, 2026.
  • Students pay $119 with SheerID verification — no .edu address required. One stream, no installments, no auto-renewal.
  • Some subscribers report better rates after cancelling auto-renewal. Others see slightly worse offers ($282 and $384). It is worth contacting support if your quoted price looks high.
  • RedZone adds roughly $10–$42 depending on the plan.

What Sunday Ticket Does Not Include

This trips people up every year. Sunday Ticket covers out-of-market Sunday afternoon CBS and FOX games only. It does not include your local games, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, Thursday Night Football, preseason, playoff games, or the Super Bowl.

If your team is in your local market, Sunday Ticket is close to worthless. Buy an antenna instead.

Option 6: NFL+ and RedZone

NFL+ costs $6.99/month or $49.99/year. It carries live local and primetime games — but only on phones and tablets, not televisions. Many people cast it to a TV anyway. It also includes NFL Network programming and out-of-market preseason games.

NFL+ Premium costs $14.99/month and adds NFL RedZone, which you can watch on a TV. If RedZone is your Sunday ritual, this is the cheapest route to it. PCWorld notes you can also bundle NFL+ Premium onto ESPN Unlimited for about $10/month more.

Option 7: Audio Only ($5/month)

Frequently overlooked and genuinely useful. SiriusXM offers a Sports Pass at $5/month covering every NFL game, including out-of-market teams, starting September 1. For commuters, or for keeping tabs on a second game, it is the best value in football.

Three Realistic Budgets

The Local Fan — $0 to $45 for the season Antenna ($35 one-time). Add Prime Video for the months your team plays a Thursday game. Most of your team’s schedule is covered.

The National Fan — roughly $50–$70/month Skinny sports bundle at $65/month, or the à la carte stack of Paramount+, Peacock, FOX One and ESPN Unlimited. Covers every window except Prime, Netflix and out-of-market.

The Completist — $550 to $920 for the season YouTube TV plus Sunday Ticket plus Prime, Netflix, Peacock and NFL+. Independent estimates put the full setup at roughly $738 for new Sunday Ticket subscribers and $921 for returning ones. Marketplace’s calculation landed between $555 and $814 depending on discounts. Whichever number you trust, it is a lot.

Watching From Outside the United States

If you are reading this from outside the US, the domestic services above are generally geo-restricted. International fans typically use NFL Game Pass International, which is sold through DAZN in most territories and bundles the full slate rather than splitting it across apps. Availability, pricing and which games are included vary considerably by country, so check the offering for your region — in many markets it is substantially better value than the American patchwork.

Four Traps to Avoid

  1. Buying Sunday Ticket for a local team. Your team’s Sunday games are blacked out on Sunday Ticket because they’re already on your local channel. Free, with an antenna.
  2. Assuming NFL+ works on your TV. Live games are mobile and tablet only unless you upgrade to Premium for RedZone.
  3. Forgetting that prices rise mid-subscription. Every major live TV service has raised prices repeatedly since 2022. The rate you sign up at today is unlikely to be your rate next season.
  4. Paying for months you don’t need. Netflix, Peacock and Paramount+ can be cancelled and restarted. The season runs September through early January — that’s five months, not twelve.

FAQ

Can I watch NFL games for free in 2026? Yes, partly. An over-the-air antenna gives you every game on CBS, FOX, NBC and ABC in your market at no recurring cost, including the Super Bowl.

What is the cheapest way to watch my team? If they’re in your market: an antenna, plus Prime Video for Thursday games. If they’re not: NFL Sunday Ticket, ideally at a discounted rate.

How much is NFL Sunday Ticket in 2026? $240 for new users, $378 for returning users with YouTube TV, $480 standalone. Students pay $119; military, veterans, first responders, medical workers and teachers pay $198 through ID.me.

Which streaming service has the most NFL games? YouTube TV, once Sunday Ticket is added. For a single app without Sunday Ticket, ESPN Unlimited offers the most for the money because NFL Network is included.

Where is Thursday Night Football in 2026? Amazon Prime Video, exclusively.

What games are on Netflix this season? Netflix carries the Week 1 international game from Australia, a Thanksgiving Eve game, Christmas Day, and a Week 18 Saturday afternoon window.

Do I need cable for the playoffs? No. Playoff games air on CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN and ABC, all of which are available over the air or through the streaming apps above. Super Bowl LXI is February 14, 2027 at SoFi Stadium.

Streaming prices and package structures change throughout the season. We update this guide as new offers appear — check back before you commit to a full-season subscription.
