Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman was arrested in Georgia in June following an alleged domestic incident involving the mother of his child and their infant daughter, according to court documents obtained on Friday. The National Football League has initiated a formal review of the matter under its personal conduct policy.

Police records state that the incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on June 3. Authorities allege that Bateman broke the windshield and driver’s side door of a 2021 Mercedes-Benz using an object. The mother, who was inside the vehicle with the couple’s three-month-old daughter sitting in the back seat, suffered facial cuts from shattered glass. Law enforcement officials reported observing multiple facial contusions on the mother, which she told police occurred during a prior altercation at their shared residence in Georgia. The arrest warrant also alleged that Bateman attempted to puncture one of the car’s tires with a screwdriver.

The 26-year-old player faces charges of family violence battery, which is a misdemeanor for first-time offenders, reckless conduct, and first-degree criminal damage to property, a felony. In a statement, Bateman’s attorney, Jordan Siev, disputed the allegations, stating that "a personal family situation has been taken completely out of context for sensational reasons." Siev added that the complete facts of the case would be revealed as the court proceedings progress.

The NFL is actively examining the situation. League spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed that officials are reviewing the arrest under the personal conduct guidelines. Violations involving family violence typically carry a baseline penalty of a six-game unpaid suspension. The Baltimore Ravens confirmed in an official statement that they alerted the league office after learning of the incident and are cooperating with authorities, though the team declined further public comment due to the pending legal proceedings.

Bateman attended the opening week of Baltimore’s offseason program in the spring but subsequently missed voluntary practices in May and June, as well as a mandatory minicamp. Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle had attributed those absences to personal matters. Bateman later returned to the team and reported for the start of summer training camp.

Bateman joined Baltimore as the 27th overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft. The team signed him to a three-year, $36.75 million contract extension featuring $20 million in guaranteed money following a successful campaign, though his 2025 season saw reduced production, finishing with 19 receptions for 224 yards and two touchdowns.

Background

The NFL Personal Conduct Policy applies to all players, team personnel, and league employees, setting behavioural standards both on and off the field. Under the policy, allegations involving domestic violence, physical assault, or family violence trigger an independent league investigation. The league holds the authority to issue suspensions or fines regardless of whether criminal charges lead to a conviction in court.
