Twins Outfielder Byron Buxton to Miss Rest of Season

Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton will miss the remainder of the Major League Baseball season to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right hip. The 32-year-old has been on the injured list since Aug. 30 and is projected to return in time for spring training.

Repeated Hip Stints

Buxton has been placed on the injured list three times this season due to recurring hip issues. Medical staff informed Buxton that the problem would continue to return without surgical intervention, prompting the decision to end his season early.

Addressing reporters, Buxton explained his rationale for undergoing the procedure. “I just don’t want to put the team in a bad position,” he said, according to MLB.com.

The three-time All-Star finished his season batting .254 with 25 home runs and 46 RBIs across 93 games.

Buxton’s injury comes as Minnesota enters the final stretch of the regular season. The Twins sit third in the American League Central division, six games behind the Chicago White Sox with 15 games remaining. Minnesota also trails by 5½ games for the final AL wild-card spot.

To fill the open spot, the Twins recalled top outfield prospect Emmanuel Rodriguez from Triple-A St. Paul. Rodriguez was immediately placed in the starting lineup, playing center field against Cleveland on Saturday.
